The New Gallery (TNG) is an artist-run centre located on Treaty 7 territory in Calgary Chinatown. This charitable centre for contemporary art was established in 1975 as the Clouds & Water Gallery and Visual Production Society. Today, the Society provides opportunities and venues for artists that foster social and political creative practices, while engaging and educating audiences through contemporary art. TNG is currently accepting Expressions of Interest for Board Members to serve for the 2018/19 term. As an artist-run centre, TNG's Board is made up of at minimum, 50% practicing artists, with the remaining 50% of the Board being comprised of professionals from various sectors and fields. At this time, TNG is recruiting Board members who are practicing artists or fundraising/development professionals. We are also looking for Board members who have experience with custom fabrication, production, and/or construction, or who are fluent in any of the following languages: Blackfoot, Cantonese, Chipewyan, Cree, Dene, French, Mandarin, Sarcee, and/or Stoney (or any other First Nations languages spoken on Treaty 7). Individuals must be able to regularly participate and contribute to the governance and operational activities of the organization. The estimated time required is 8-10 hours per month. Specific duties include: ● Become knowledgable about TNG's activities and actively support and promote the organization's mandate and vision. ● Actively participate in decision-making. ● Attend monthly Board meetings held on the last Wednesday of each month. ● Represent TNG at gallery openings and community events. ● Participate in fundraising activities, including bingo fundraisers ● Become a member or Chair of at least one Standing Committee (Programming, Communications, Fundraising, Human Resources, etc.); or be an Executive Officer for the Board.
