Alberta Diabetes Foundation – Calgary Chapter

The Alberta Diabetes Foundation, entering its 30th year of research investments in Alberta reaching almost $15 million is expanding and adding Chapters throughout Alberta. The Foundation seeks to deliver impact to people living with diabetes by contributing to research that relates to the prevention, treatment, and cure for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Alberta is the place to make it happen.

Our Calgary Chapter is essential to our operations and will both help spread the word about the critical work of the Alberta Diabetes Institute and other Alberta diabetes research groups and researchers and assist the Foundation in achieving its goal of providing at least $1 million dollars in funding annually for diabetes research in Alberta. The Calgary Chapter will provide information and advice to the Foundation Board of Directors and prioritize the allocation of local allocated research options that fit within the Foundations Vision and Mission. Finally, the Calgary Chapter would be responsible for providing guidance in respect of fund raising and community engagement initiatives within the Calgary area.

Currently:
• the Foundation operates a Halloween Howl Race every October and “Merlot Meets Monet” in the spring.
• we also run events on an ad-hoc basis, with different themes
• we facilitate third party events
• we have a growing relationship with the Alberta Children’s Hospital
• we have thousands of active and supportive donors within Calgary and a volunteer force of over 100 people
• there are diabetes researchers in both Calgary and Edmonton with international recognition.

Where do we want to get to?
• Triple the race size
• more 3rd party events
• leverage events to increase awareness of diabetes and the research community, develop corporate relationships and meet donors and supporters!
Of course, our ultimate goal is to fund a cure for diabetes in Alberta!

We are asking you to get involved and be part of two things:
• Making the Alberta Diabetes Foundation a household name in Calgary; and
• Celebrating with us as during the ADF’s 30th Anniversary in 2018.
